Leaving On A Jet Plane

Here is a first, I am writing this post at 7 am.
Unless I am being paid to do something I don't do anything this early. Ever.

But I decided that flying at 6:30 am was smart.
So I got up this morning to check myself in and try and make myself semi prepared for tomorrows wake up time.

Let's be real here for a minute: there is nothing that can prepare you for waking up at 3 in the morning and me laying on the couch with pillows and blankets tinkering away on my computer isn't going to exhaust me enough that I am ready for bed by 8 tonight.

As of right now my only real plan is getting a good buzz going around 4 this afternoon and hoping I pass out. Such a romantic last night for me and the mister.

The truth is I am a pretty silly horrible traveler.

one. Airports stress me out.
I am always worried about getting there on time. Getting on the right plane. Locating my bags. Not tripping over people as I search for some sign of where I should be going.

Does anyone else visualize this scene when they are flying without their significant other?!?

Just me.

The reality is I am traveling way to early for a scene like that, so I am stuck driving myself and dealing with parking and my own luggage. The torture! I will probably look more like this:

Speaking of unrealistic expectations from movies, I have always pictured how amazing it would be to come home from a trip away to something like this:

But I will be arriving back in Austin right smack dab in the middle of rush hour traffic, getting my own car and the mister will be at work.

Are you feeling bad for me yet?!?

Please don't I am seriously mocking myself for these romantic whims that I normally keep buried deep deep deep inside.

two. I hate running the show.
In most situations I don't mind the power but when traveling I am much more comfortable taking the back seat and letting others make the plans. But I am traveling with my mom, sister and friend all of which when asked what they want to do in NYC have responded: "whatever there is to do in NYC" so you are looking at the ring leader of this circus.

three. I always miss the details.
Chances are I will be doing something so plain exciting that I will forget we need to check in our flights. Happened in Colorado.
Or I will just give the name of the hotel and not the address and we will arrive at the wrong hotel. Happened in New Orleans.
Or I will forget my mom is legally married and book her under my last name. Dealing with right now.

four. I pack as if I am never coming home again.
I generally have too many bags that weigh too much.
I have paid that stupid 50 dollar fee in order to get a bag that weighed too much on a plane before.
I could come up with eight million posts on this topic alone but Jenna Marbles pretty much takes the cake on describing exactly how I pack.
And why I planned an entire day for it. Sigh.

If you have never seen this before, watch it it is hilarious!
Although you can stop at about the 1:42 part.

five. When I am nervous/anxious I need to pee a lot.
TMI??? Whatever its true.
And needing to pee a lot while standing in lines, boarding a plane, waiting for luggage and hailing a taxi is just miserable.

I will most likely not be back until next Tuesday with the world's biggest photo dump known to man, if you are interested in any pictures before then you can check me out on Instagram.

Anyone else out there as silly of a traveler as I am?

  1. I've recently started following your blog and think you are hilarious! Also, you are not alone with the anxious pee thing. The first day of school is terrible in that regard... cuz you know teachers can't pee!!

  2. YES. I get very anxious at airports. I always worry about getting frisked at the security and being told I can't take my purse or something important with me on the flight..lol. I worry about being late for flights.. which we are usually late in general. I worry about not finding my gate. But, I keep all of my worries to myself because my hubby would go nuts if I vocalized all of these concerns. I am just quiet.. and wait until I am finally on the plane and then I relax.
You'll be fine! Enjoy your little holiday and just think- because you are calling all of the shots means that you will be able to do all the stuff YOU want to do;)

  3. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA....ALL of this sounds just like me. I pack just like that too when I go out to California. I recently escaped the fee for the 51 pound bag because the lady at the counter felt so sorry for me because I was snot-sobbing leaving my parents behind. I am the most nervous peer on the face of the planet. I'm sure I've got you beat. I go before bed and literally have to get up five minutes later...EVERY night! I'm sure you can only imagine what plane rides are like because I like to sit by the window. My mom always books me on the red eye flying home, so I feel like such a B when I have to wake up the snorin' and droolin' people next to me to get up!
